Los Angeles lawyer James J.S. Holmes receives ABA Edmund S. Muskie Pro Bono Service Award

CHICAGO, May 7, 2024 — Los Angeles lawyer James J.S. Holmes received the American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s (TIPS) Edmund S. Muskie Pro Bono Service Award on May 3 during the TIPS Section Conference at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.

The award recognizes TIPS members who have demonstrated commitment to justice for all citizens and dedication to pro bono service.

“Jim has been recognized with awards for his outstanding dedication to community and public service endeavors,” said TIPS Chair Loren Podwill. “He leverages his significant talents and skills to positively impact individuals from diverse backgrounds through his pro bono initiatives. It is dedicated advocates like Jim who are actively contributing to making the world a better place through their passion and commitment.”   

A long-time advocate for diversity and LGBT rights, Holmes received the first-ever Chambers Lifetime Achievement Award for LGBT and Equality, presented by legal rankings company Chambers and Partners, and has served in numerous bar and civic leadership roles. An experienced trial attorney and litigator, he specializes in defending clients in a wide range of intellectual property cases, including trademark, trade dress, trade secrets and copyright infringement. He also handles matters related to misrepresentation of likeness, unfair competition and breach of contract actions and works with clients on the defense of claims brought against their marketing practices, including broadcast and print advertising and internet marketing. In addition, he advises clients on cyber liability issues, including the implications and coverage for data and privacy breaches.
