A Path Forward: The Value of Forensic Science Standards Development and Use to the American Legal System

Following a 2009 report by the National Academy of Sciences on the state of forensic science an effort to improve the quality of such evidence has been underway, leading to the development of standards for the testing and analysis of such evidence. This article explains the background leading to such standards, the standards development process and their value to criminal justice practitioners.
