As stress on the power grid and extreme weather events increasingly impact the nation and the world, indigenous communities will play a pivotal role in providing reliable, clean energy to their communities and beyond. This session will explore the unique opportunities, including federal funding, available to indigenous energy projects while also examining the challenges that indigenous energy projects face. Specifically, the session will provide an overview of relevant federal laws, regulations, and policies applicable to indigenous energy development and various strategies that indigenous communities can harness to remove barriers for energy project partnerships. The session will also discuss federal funding opportunities currently available for indigenous energy projects and ways that previously disbursed federal funding is being put to use today. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of energy projects on indigenous lands and strategies for positioning their communities as ideal partners for energy projects.
