El Salvador Background

Since 2012, ABA ROLI has been supporting efforts to fight crime and reduce violence in El Salvador and Central America. In order to sustain this, ABA ROLI collaborates with police, lawyers, judges and others in the justice sector to increase the use of scientific evidence in criminal investigations and prosecutions. Although El Salvador has made considerable progress toward greater democratic inclusion since the signing of its peace accords in 1992, the country still faces challenges, particularly in helping ensure the rights of minorities. ABA ROLI is working to curb violence against the members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community with the support of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
