The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), with the support of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), in partnership with the Superior Judicial Council, as part of its commitment to strengthening the Rule of Law in Colombia, hosted the official launch of the Strengthening Judicial Practice in Rural Areas of Colombia Program on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 9:00 am to 11:05 am (Colombia Time UTC-5) and from 10:00 am to 12:05 pm (Eastern Time, USA). The launch took place in Riohacha, Colombia, and was livestreamed on YouTube.

In Colombia, the judicial system faces multiple challenges in responding to organized crime and the demand for access to justice, especially in rural areas. Consequently, ABA ROLI is implementing the Strengthening the Judicial Practice in Rural Areas of Colombia Program, a 36-month initiative funded by INL. The program will provide technical assistance to strengthen the skills of the criminal justice system, with an emphasis on cases related to organized crime. The program will focus its efforts on the rural areas of the departments of Antioquia, Arauca, Chocó, La Guajira, Nariño, and Norte de Santander. The launch event included a panel discussion titled ‘Challenges of Justice in Rural Areas of Colombia.’ During this panel, international and local experts offered their perspectives and analysis on the challenges faced by justice sector officials in the country's rural areas. The panel's objective was to promote a conversation about the aspects that need to be considered in supporting justice administrators in the territory.

La American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) con el apoyo de la Sección de Asuntos Antinarcóticos y Aplicación de la Ley (INL por sus siglas en inglés) y en alianza con el Consejo Superior de la Judicatura, como parte de su compromiso con el fortalecimiento del Estado de Derecho en Colombia, organizó el lanzamiento oficial del Programa Fortalecimiento de la Función Judicial en Zonas Rurales de Colombia el viernes, 22 de septiembre de 2023, de 9:00 am a 11:05 am (Hora de Colombia UTC-5) y de 10:00 am a 12:05 pm (Hora del Este de EEUU). El lanzamiento fue en Riohacha, Colombia, y fue transmitido vía streaming en YouTube.

En Colombia, el sistema judicial enfrenta múltiples desafíos para responder a la delincuencia organizada, y la demanda de acceso a la justicia, especialmente en zonas rurales. En consecuencia, ABA ROLI implementa el Programa de Fortalecimiento de la Función Judicial en Zonas Rurales de Colombia, una iniciativa de 36 meses financiada por INL. El Programa proporcionará asistencia técnica para fortalecer las competencias de la justicia penal con énfasis en casos relacionados con la criminalidad organizada. El programa centrará sus esfuerzos en las zonas rurales de los departamentos de Antioquia, Arauca, Chocó, La Guajira, Nariño y Norte de Santander. El evento de lanzamiento incluido un panel de discusión titulado “Los desafíos de la justicia en zonas rurales de Colombia”. El objetivo del panel fue promover una conversación sobre aquellos aspectos que se deben considerar para apoyar a los administradores de justicia en el territorio.
